Episode 18: Will I Have to Lay on a Couch: Demystifying the counseling experience with Dr. Michelle Ghoston.

Will I have to lay on the couch? Will my therapist just tell me what to do? What if the clinician and I don’t “click?” If I go to counseling, does it mean I am “crazy?” Our mental health is important, especially right now when so much of our life feels a bit off course, disrupted, or unpredictable. In honor of National Suicide Prevention Month, I talk with Dr. Michelle Ghoston, Assistant Professor and Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, to demystify the counseling process and experience, highlight the importance of strengthening and attending to our mental health, and validate the human experience in the midst of multiple pandemics.

Dr. Ghoston is an Assistant Professor at Wake Forest University where she educates future mental health counselors. Her research is anchored in Social Justice and Equity; Cultural Competence and Awareness; Neuroscience; and Threat Assessment. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and has a private practice.
